Construction time clock and crew timesheets
Crews clock in on their phone or on the foreman's tablet, punches are checked against a GPS geofence around the jobsite, lunch and overtime follow your state's rules, and approved pay periods export straight into the file your payroll provider expects.
Paper time cards cost more than you think
Handwritten time cards get rounded, forgotten and retyped. The office spends Monday chasing missing hours, nobody knows which job the overtime belongs to, and when a worker says they didn't get a lunch break there's no record either way.
Trakend's time clock records each punch with the time, the project and a GPS location, applies your lunch and overtime rules automatically, and gives the office an approval step before anything goes to payroll.
Clock in from a phone or a jobsite kiosk
- Workers punch in, start and end breaks, and punch out from their phone. They pick the project, and only projects they're assigned to are allowed.
- Field workers who only need the time clock sign in with their email and a PIN, and the Time clock only role doesn't use a paid seat.
- Kiosk mode turns the foreman's tablet into a jobsite time clock: workers tap their name and enter their PIN. The foreman can also punch the whole crew in or out at once, and start and end a crew lunch.
- Punches made without signal are saved with the device time and a unique ID, then sent when the connection comes back, and never counted twice.
- An On site now view shows who is clocked in on each job.
GPS geofences around every jobsite
Draw a geofence for each project on a map; the default radius is about 500 feet. GPS location is saved on every clock-in and clock-out. You choose the policy for punches outside the fence: flag them for review (the default) or block them. Individual workers, like a driver or an estimator, can be allowed to clock in anywhere.
Lunch, breaks and overtime rules
- Handle lunch by punching it, by deducting it automatically, or both, without ever deducting the same minutes twice. Lunch can be paid or unpaid; short rest breaks are paid.
- At clock-out, workers confirm whether they got their lunch and can answer an optional injury question. Their answers are stored and can't be edited afterwards.
- State presets for Federal, California, Washington, Oregon and Colorado rules, or set your own. The California preset includes daily overtime after 8 hours, double time after 12, the seventh-day rule and meal-period tracking.
- Weekly and daily overtime, double time and holiday multipliers, with overtime charged to jobs in time order or spread evenly.
- Optional rounding to 5, 6, 10 or 15 minutes (off by default).
- Forgotten punches close automatically at a set time or after a maximum shift length, so one missed clock-out doesn't become a 30-hour shift.
Timesheets, approvals and pay periods
Timesheets flag punches that need a second look before you approve them, and every edit is recorded with a reason in an audit log. Pay periods can be weekly, every two weeks, twice a month or monthly, and move from open to approved to locked to exported. Only an admin can unlock a locked period, and that's logged too.
Payroll exports and reports
- Export approved time as files for Gusto, ADP Workforce Now, RUN Powered by ADP, Paychex Flex, QuickBooks Online (time CSV), QuickBooks Desktop (IIF), Foundation, Sage 100 Contractor and Spectrum, or as CSV and Excel.
- Map payroll IDs, earning codes and job codes once. Each export gets a batch number, Trakend warns you if hours were already exported, and past files can be downloaded again.
- Schedule exports to email reports and payroll files when a period locks or on a set day and time.
- Ten reports in PDF, Excel or CSV, including payroll summary, hours by project, labor cost by project, overtime, exceptions, break compliance, geofence violations and edit history.
Turn it on when you're ready
The time clock is included on every plan and switched off until an admin turns it on in company settings, so companies that already have a time system aren't forced to change. Labor hours sit next to the daily report and safety records for the same day. See pricing or read how subcontractors use Trakend.
Frequently asked questions
Can workers clock in without an app download?
Yes. Workers can clock in from any phone browser, from the Trakend iOS app, or on a foreman's tablet in kiosk mode. Time-clock-only workers sign in with their email and a PIN.
Does the time clock use GPS geofencing?
Yes. Each project can have a geofence drawn on a map. GPS is recorded on every punch, and punches outside the fence are flagged or blocked, depending on your company setting.
Does Trakend handle California overtime and meal breaks?
The California preset applies daily overtime after 8 hours, double time after 12, the seventh-day rule and meal-period tracking, and workers confirm their lunch at clock-out. Review the settings with your payroll advisor; Trakend is not a payroll service and doesn't calculate tax withholding.
Which payroll providers can I export to?
Trakend creates export files for Gusto, ADP Workforce Now, RUN Powered by ADP, Paychex Flex, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Foundation, Sage 100 Contractor and Spectrum, plus generic CSV and Excel.
Do time-clock-only workers count as paid users?
No. The Time clock only role doesn't use one of your plan's seats.
