What's new in Trakend
Trakend ships improvements continuously. These are the recent releases, newest first, written in plain language. Features listed here are live for every plan unless a note says otherwise.
New pages: security, data ownership and comparisons
· Website
- A new Security and data ownership page explains exactly how exports, backups, permissions and subcontractor access work.
- New About page, and comparison pages for Fieldwire, Autodesk Build, Contractor Foreman and JobTread, collected on one alternatives page.
- Clearer pricing page with every plan, price and FAQ in plain text.
Pay app PDFs filed automatically, and punch lists for everyone
· Money & paperwork
- Approving a pay application now files a G702/G703-style PDF to the project's Files under Accounting → Pay Applications, and the approval email attaches it. Subcontractor pay apps are filed under each sub's name.
- The filed PDF uses the schedule of values frozen at approval, so later change orders can't change it.
- Generating a lien waiver also files a copy next to the pay app.
- The punch list is available to everyone with punch list permission, not just admins. Every punch action checks project access on the server.
- Punch items and checklists now notify the right people: the assignee when an item is assigned, the creator when it's resolved or verified, and the PM when a checklist is signed off with failed items.
- On phones, the project Today tab has a bar pinned to the bottom with Export day PDF and Finalize.
- Document text reading (OCR) now handles Spanish as well as English.
Finalize Day and email you can trust
· Field
- Finalize Day sends through a delivery queue with the day's PDF attached and files the PDF to Files → Finalized Reports by year and month.
- Before you finalize, a panel shows exactly who will get the email. Afterwards it shows delivered or not delivered for each person, with a Resend button.
- RFI Send PDF builds the PDF on the server and attaches it, supports several recipients, and skips accidental repeat sends.
- Sending a submittal attaches a cover PDF and the uploaded datasheets, and switches to download links automatically when files are too large for email.
- Inviting someone who's already on the team now tells you so, with a resend option for pending invites.
- Emails show the sender as "Name (Company) via Trakend", use US-style dates, and include the project name and number.
Daily reports, photos, plans and RFIs
· Field & paperwork
- Daily reports: pick crew members from your people list, morning and afternoon weather with an impacted-work flag, crews pre-filled from the weekly planner, and an inline photo viewer.
- Photos: sort, group and filter, tags, EXIF date and GPS, and ZIP download.
- JHAs get a job-step table and an equipment picker; toolbox talks record the presenter, duration and language.
- Plans: click a spot on a sheet to pin an RFI to it.
- RFIs and submittals: a company-wide numbering format, and ball-in-court flips back to the person who asked when an RFI is answered.
- The form builder saves automatically and comes with a library of stock forms.
- Checklists can't be signed off with unanswered items unless you confirm "Sign anyway", which lists the open items.
Budgets, change orders and job costing
· Money
- Committed costs match between the Cost Codes and Budget tabs, and projected cost is actual cost plus open commitments unless you set a forecast.
- General contractors can enter a subcontractor's contract and schedule of values, so sub pay apps start from the right numbers.
- Change order markup settings, including markup on deducts, and markup lines on T&M tickets.
- Import signed T&M tickets straight into a change order.
- Cost code budgets can be built from quantity times unit cost, plus invoice terms and retainage, and a cost code picker on expenses.
Calendar, equipment and notifications
· Company-wide
- The calendar has a real week view with an all-day lane, and now shows checklist and punch due dates, JHAs, toolbox talks and purchase order dates. A company week-start setting was added, and a daylight-saving-time bug that showed a day twice was fixed.
- Equipment: an inspection log, and service-due reminders by date or hour meter, plus registration, insurance and rental return reminders.
- A daily digest email option sends one morning summary instead of an email per event.
- Approval notifications clear themselves once the item has been handled.
- Address autocomplete when creating a project.
Turn features on and off for your company
· Admin
- Admins can switch modules off company-wide in Settings → Features. A turned-off feature is hidden everywhere (web, phone app, notifications and finalize PDFs) and blocked on the server, and the data is kept for when you turn it back on.
- New employees get their role's default permissions everywhere the moment they're added, and the same rules apply on the phone app. See security and permissions.
Time clock: lunch rules, overtime, pay periods and payroll exports
· Time clock
- The time clock is included on every plan. An admin turns it on in company settings.
- Lunch can be punched, deducted automatically, or both, and automatic deductions only cover the shortfall so the same minutes are never taken twice. Workers confirm their lunch at clock-out.
- State presets for Federal, California, Washington, Oregon and Colorado rules, with daily and weekly overtime, double time and the seventh-day rule.
- Pay periods move from open to approved to locked to exported, and every timesheet edit is logged with a reason.
- Payroll export files for Gusto, ADP Workforce Now, RUN Powered by ADP, Paychex Flex, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Foundation, Sage 100 Contractor and Spectrum, plus CSV and Excel.
- Scheduled exports email reports and payroll files on your schedule, and forgotten punches close automatically.
A live demo that's always fresh
· Website
- The live demo on the homepage opens a full sample company with real-looking jobs in seconds, no sales call needed. It resets every night with dates moved up to today.
Export everything: your whole company in one zip
· Data ownership
- Admins can export the whole company, or one project, from Settings: every record as CSV and JSON plus every photo, drawing and document.
- Exports build in the background, and you get an email with the download link when the file is ready.
- Read how exports, backups and permissions work on Security and data ownership.
